Weather
February is usually the driest month of the year. Rain is rare, humidity is low and there is often almost no wind, so the lagoons lie flat and clear. It is warm without being oppressive, with highs of around 30°C and long, sunny days.
In the water
Visibility under water is among the best of the year, and can reach 30 metres or more. The sea is about 28°C, and the calm lagoons are as good for kayaking as for snorkelling.
With water this clear, it is one of the best months for spotting mantas and reef sharks. Whale sharks are found around South Ari Atoll all year, and around Fuvahmulah, in the far south, February is in their season.
Surf
The surf season opens in the middle of February and runs until October or November.
Visitors and prices
February is one of the most expensive months, and resorts are often full. Book early.
Who it suits
February is a favourite for honeymoons and anniversaries, and good for families too. It suits anyone whose holiday depends on sunshine and calm water: beach days, sailing and snorkelling.
