Weather
November brings drier weather back. Rain decreases noticeably, sunny days come back more consistently and the sea calms, especially in the second half of the month. There can still be showers, but they pass quickly. Highs are around 29°C to 30°C.
In the water
As the water clears, November becomes a fine month for snorkelling and diving, and the flat seas late in the month suit a sunset cruise on a dhoni. The sea is about 28°C.
Mantas begin to move back to the western sides of the atolls, and Hanifaru Bay’s season draws to a close. Whale sharks are still seen around South Ari Atoll, where August to November is often named as the best time.
Surf
Some count September to November as one of the best spells of the surf season, while others end the season with October. In the northeast monsoon, the southern atolls catch more of the swell.
Visitors and prices
November is quieter than December, and with fewer guests, service can feel more personal. Prices start to rise as the high season approaches, and resorts begin getting ready for the festive season.
Who it suits
A good month for a first visit and for snorkelling, particularly in Ari and Malé atolls, and for families and couples who want good weather before the December crowds.
