Weather
March is the last month of the dry season. It stays dry and sunny, with up to nine hours of sunshine a day and highs of 30°C to 31°C, but the days feel hotter and the humidity begins to rise. A short shower is possible, though there is plenty of time to swim and snorkel.
In the water
The sea stays calm and the visibility excellent, and the strong light makes March one of the best months for underwater photography. The water is about 29°C.
Coral spawning has been recorded in March and April in Baa Atoll, within a few days of the full moon. Mantas are still seen on the western sides of the atolls, and around Fuvahmulah it is whale shark season.
Surf
The surf season is under way, and March to May is one of its best spells.
Visitors and prices
March is still a busy month. Some resorts are quieter than in January and February, while others stay close to full. Easter is a popular, higher-priced time at most resorts, and in 2027 it comes early: Good Friday is 26 March and Easter Sunday 28 March.
Who it suits
March is one of the best months for divers and underwater photographers, and a strong month for couples and longer stays. Surfers start to arrive, too.
